Our Fitters & Staff

Our staff of Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddle Fitters is continually developing their education to enable your fitting to encompass every aspect of comfort and keep your saddles as sympathetic to your horse as possible!

The SMS Registered and Qualified Saddle Fitters on staff at HCS,USA Saddlery have trained with the Society of Master Saddlers, sitting and completing their training and exams to become Independent Saddle Fitters.  In addition to the SMS Saddle Fitting Courses, they have also attended and completed the Society of Master Saddlers Bridle Fitting Course and the Neue Schule Bitting Training Academy with a credit of pass with distinction.

Annette Gavin -  BA Honors, BHSii, Registered Qualified Saddle Fitter, USPC National Examiner  -Through A Level, Neue Schule Bitting Academy Course Pass with Destinction

Annette was educated in the UK, attending City University in London where she graduated with a Politics and Law Degree. After University she concentrated on her passion of horses and competed in Three Day Level Eventing in the UK and Intermediare II in dressage. During this time she qualified through the British Horse Society’s Examinations as an Instructor and Rider taking and passing her Intermediate Instructor exams. Annette taught Pony Club in the UK and was an examiner at the B Level.

After immigrating to the USA to a job as an Associate Professor in the Wilson College Equestrian program, she taught Pedagogy and Biomechanics classes as well as the practical and theoretical study of backing the young horse and riding classes. Annette went on to establish her own saddlery company and Qualified with the Society of Master Saddlers as a Qualified Saddle Fitter. Since then she has been fitting and doing saddle research in conjunction with the Novel company. Novel  assists by providing a Pliance Pressure System to use under saddles. Research is also conducted using high speed camera analysis done with the Quintic system. This research is used to assist in product development, problem solving and increased awareness of Pliance. In her spare time she still rides and schools her two event horses and enjoys gardening.

Amber Markley - BA Business Managment, Qualified & Registered Society of Master Saddlers Saddle Fitter, USPC Graduate A & past National Examiner, SMS Bridle Fitting Course 2016, Neue Schule Bitting Academy Course Pass with Destinction

Amber is a professional horsewoman with over 25 years of experience riding, training, competing, instructing, and caring for horses.  She has trained and competed in multiple disciplines, including eventing, show jumping, dressage, and mounted games in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. .
Amber’s riding, schooling and training experience includes starting & backing young horses; bringing along 3, 4 & 5 year olds for USEA & USDF Young Horse Competitions; re-training spoiled horses; and competing at the upper levels of dressage, eventing and  jumpers.

Building on the horse management practices she learned in the USPC, she is continuing her education to become an LVT (Licensed Veterinary Technician).  Additionally, Amber has extensive experience fitting tack for the safety and comfort of both horse and rider, to ensure the best performance possible.  She has completed the Society of Master Saddler’s Intro to Saddle Fitting course, USA and the Society of Master Saddler's Qualified Saddle Fitting course, UK which earned her the opportunity to sit and pass her SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter certifications. She attended and competed the SMS's Bridle Fitting Course in 2016 and is currently enrolled in the Neue Schule Bitting Academy, with current course work passed with distinction. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, gardening and adventuring with her husband and Labrador.
