In the kit--- you will receive a flexible curve, a saddle
fitting sheet with several carbon copies on it, a pen and
chalk. (This is available through us for $25)
*After you
have finished taking the tracings below you will need
to provide three photo's of your horse - one from the
left side, one from the right side and one from the back
(you will need to stand on a mounting block to take this
shot).
Digital
photos are acceptable, please burn them to a CD and send
them along with the rest of the
information.
Please review the steps below
before beginning and refer to the diagrams to help you complete

Please
note: In Diagram 1 it is important that
the distance between the lines shown
should be as follows:
B is 4" from A
C is 6" from B

|
STARTING WITH MEASUREMENT "A"
To
begin tracing, place the center of the flexible curve
carefully on the front of the saddle area
on your horse
(about 2 inches back from the shoulder blade
- please refer to diagram
1).
Carefully bend the flexible curve
straight down around the horse and make sure to fit
both sides
well around
the shape
of the withers.
Then, on the left side of
the horse, mark with chalk a line following the flexible
curve
and
note that
this will
be LINE
A.
Now, without disturbing the
shape of the flexible curve, remove it from the horse
and place it
on the carbon
paper towards the top center of the
sheet (please take note
when you are finished your
sheet should look similar
to diagram 2).
Using the pen carefully trace
around the flexible curve and label the mark "A" (see
diagram 2) REMEMBER TO US THE UNDER SIDE OF THE CURVE
(THE ONE CLOSEST TO THE HORSES
BODY) TO DRAW THE LINES ON THE PAPER SO
YOUR MEASUREMENT WILL BE THE MOST ACCURATE.
TAKE MEASUREMENT "C" BEFORE
MEASUREMENT "B"
Next, go to the last rib on
your horse and feel up to the top. Again, place
the center
of the flexible
curve
at this
area and bend the flexible curve
straight down around
the shape of the horse.
Then, on the
left side of the horse, mark with chalk a line
following the
flexible
curve and
note that
this will
be LINE
C.
Without disturbing the shape
of the flexible curve, remove it from the
horse and place
it on the carbon
paper towards
the lower middle and center
of the sheet (diagram 2).
Using the pen carefully trace
around the curve and label the mark "C" (diagram
2).
Referring
back to the chalk marks on your horse, pick the
middle point between
LINE
A and LINE
C along the
spine
of the horse and place
the center of the flexible curve at on
area.
Please note: In Diagram
1 it is important that the distance between the
lines shown should be as follows:
B is 4" from
A
C is 6" from B
Bend the curve straight
down around the shape of the horse
and mark
with chalk
a line following
the curve,
note this
will be LINE B (diagram 2).
Without
disturbing the shape of the flexible curve, remove
it from
the
horse and place
it on the carbon
paper between
your tracings
of A & C
in the center
of the sheet (diagram 2).
Using the pen
carefully trace around
the curve
and label
the mark "B" (diagram
2).
Now
for the last step in tracing. This tracing
will show the
drop from
the wither to the
back. Place
the flexible
curve horizontally
along the spine of your horse
to stretch
across
LINES
A-C,
making
sure to follow
closely
the shape
of the backbone.
Without
disturbing the shape of the curve,
remove
it from
the horse
and
place
it at the
bottom in the center
of the
carbon
paper (diagram 2).
Using the pen
carefully trace around the
curve
and label the mark "D & E" (see
diagram 2).
*If
your
horse has a pronounced
dip
behind
the shoulder blade, please
comment
on this as it will
ensure
your saddle will
be
aligned properly on
your
horse. (see diagram
3 on
panel shapes)
